Get to Know Rae of Sunshine

Rae of Sunshine Collective was founded in 2020 by Alex after the loss of her job due to the COVID. Initially we launched as a small business to offer unique, all-natural, non-toxic candles to friends and family, Rae of Sunshine was born out of a desire to spread sunshine during dark times. Over the years, the business became a beloved staple in the community, participating in markets, hosting candle-pouring parties, and organizing events. However, as the brand grew, it struggled to maintain its originality and sparkle while competing in an increasingly saturated market.

In 2022, Rae of Sunshine Collective expanded with its first brick-and-mortar storefront, where it showcased a variety of women-owned businesses and artisan products. The store became a one-stop-shop for unique gifts, candles, and featured an iconic candle bar for customers to create their own candles. As the business continued to evolve, Rae of Sunshine moved away from a consignment model, while maintaining to be a bridge for relationships with the lovely vendors that local customers had come to love.

In 2024, Rae of Sunshine took a brief hiatus to regroup and rebrand, emerging again as Rae of Sunshine Candle Bakery. This new concept focuses on fun and imaginative candles inspired by desserts, drinks, and vintage 1950s-themed designs, all housed within a more curated bakery-style gift shop. Visitors can now enjoy a unique shopping experience, immersing themselves in retro diner vibes. Customers can shop for their favorite products, make a charm necklace, or visit the candle bar to create their own personalized candles with friends.

Get to Know the Owner, Alex Lyons

Hey there! I'm Alex, the founder of Rae of Sunshine Candle Bakery, and I'm so glad you're here! I’m 24, happily married to my high school sweetheart, and together we have two little girls—5 and 3—who have been my sidekicks throughout every step of this journey. They keep me on my toes and remind me daily why I do what I do.

I’m also a proud cat mom to four furry little friends who definitely add some extra chaos to my life, but I wouldn't have it any other way! When I’m not working in the store, you can usually find me thrifting, as I’m a huge fan of granny core and all things vintage. There’s just something so special about bringing old treasures back to life.

Candles, women-owned businesses, and human rights are all things I’m deeply passionate about, and I strive to reflect that in every corner of my store. I believe in creating a warm, welcoming environment for everyone in our community—not just a select few. Every product, every event, every little detail is chosen with love, care, and a commitment to making our space a little brighter for everyone who walks through the door.
